Happy TUESDAY to you! I always get secretly annoyed with people who type everything in all-caps. But a three-day weekend that has left me, all day today, thinking this Tuesday is a Monday. OH, the JOY, when I figure out that this is only a four-day work week!
As you can probably tell, I made a few changes around here! I hope you like our new look :) I'll re-convene with the "BGL" series soon!
How was your Labor Day weekend?! Mine was glorious. I spent time relaxing, getting things knocked off my to-do list, and just enjoying my pups, family, and friends. The only real Labor-Day'ish things I did were attending a pool party and cook out Monday afternoon, followed by a Labor Day dinner that evening. Other than that, I soaked up some relaxation! I've got a busy fall ahead, so it was nice to re-group.
Before we recap, a few pieces of news!
- I broke down and got Apple TV {I'm sure you're not surprised!} Any reviews out there?! My modem should be on my doorstep this evening, so I'm excited to get it hooked up and start watching Hulu!
- I also broke down and got my new Nano's! I swear that they made me WOD all the better on Thursday ;)
- On September 16th, I have an appointment to get BRACES! That's right, you heard me... Braces! I've told a few friends and co-workers and a majority of them think I'm crazy. My teeth are actually pretty straight, but not as straight as I know they can be. I had braces for about 2 years in middle school, and my retainer was comparable to Invisalign. I had my braces in Alabama, but shortly after we moved to Mississippi, my retainer broke. My mom immediately called my orthodontist, who insisted I didn't need a replacement retainer. Hence, almost 25 years of life, & crooked teeth. I'm going to a dentist whose kids I babysat for about 5 years, and I'm excited than I could've imagined! The brand of braces I'm getting is called "Six Month Smiles," and everything is either clear or tooth-colored. So, I won't look too much like a twelve year old ;)
- I felt like it was my duty to let the blog world know that I found THE cutest and best pair of pants in the whole entire world this weekend. And, I never would've suspected I'd say that about a pair of Old Navy pants! I've been obsessing over merlot/burgundy-colored frocks, and had my eye on a few merlot-colored skirts at J. Crew. I just never could pull the trigger and commit to a piece of clothing when I wasn't sure I'd absolutely love the color. When J. Crew showcased their herringbone puffer vest (which I have in the J. Crew Factory version) with merlot colored skirts, I knew I needed a pair. I had some rewards to spend at Old Navy, so I went through and perused on Sunday after church. I paid $17 for these babies! I wore them to work today with a chambray button-up, a simple J. Crew tortoise necklace, and some J. Crew camel-colored pumps... This might be new my favorite fall outfit! Click HERE for the pants.
5. Probably the most exciting bit of news... My mama and I started discussing fun birthday activities, since we have several family birthdays fast-approaching. She thought it might be fun to do something different this year. Then, we noticed that Arkansas plays Mississippi State in Little Rock on the day of my birthday this year. I got a text from my mom Saturday night telling me to check my e-mail. That sneaky little thing bought tickets for her, my dad, and me to attend the game for my birthday! What a fun present, especially considering that neither of my parents have ever been to a Razorback football game. I already can't wait! {And may have already started considering what I'll wear....}
Speaking of the Hogs, our team won their first game this weekend! WOO PIG SOOIE! I had some hot decaf green tea with local honey in my Hog mug to celebrate in style!
I rented season 1 of Revenge on DVD this weekend and could NOT stop watching. It's an addiction, I tell you! I had several friends who just insisted I needed to get hooked and catch up before the premiere of season 3 this month - I took their advice! It's a tough job, lounging around on the couch all weekend, but some one's gotta do it ;) Is THIS what it feels like to have cable or, in my case, Hulu?! I'm loving it.
{I'm not a weirdo who normally has her shoes on while laying on the couch... I just literally spent every free second this weekend glued to my TV... So much so that I obviously didn't spare a single moment to take my shoes off!}
Henley & Harlow also loved Revenge, and mama enjoyed snuggle time!
When I finished season 1, I couldn't wait to start season 2... So I pulled out the ol' MacBook and started up Hulu, and did just that! I think I need rehab for this...
A few weekly eats - Saturday I made homemade linguine with clam sauce. With a glass of Merlot, it's one of my very favorite meals!
The leftovers made great lunches! Here, I served the linguine with a small homemade salad - I just chopped up a few hearts of Romaine, added some kalamata olives, sliced Cherub tomatoes, parm, and some Olive Garden dressing... Viola! For dessert, I had a slice of the homemade strawberry pretzel ice box pie I made this weekend! I got the recipe from Southern Living and it's safe to say that this one's a keeper. Click HERE for the exact recipe. I washed everything down with a glass of my favorite "carbonated beverage that isn't Diet Coke" {Yes, that's a category! I'm a recovering DC addict, y'all..} - lime Perrier with a wedge of lime, on ice!
The first thing I do in the mornings is take the dogs outside to potty. It was sort of chilly this morning, so I thought that rightfully called for a fall-like breakfast! {Let's not count the fact that it turned out to be in the nineties.... Details!} I whipped up a quick breakfast of a few fried eggs with Yi-Yi sauce, bacon, and oats with white chocolate PB/chocolate chips/strawberries.. Complete with a cup of coffee, of course!
I hope y'all have had the very best non-Monday Monday ever! I've got a pretty low-key week, and am looking forward to a few opportunities for some much-needed girl time. I'm so blessed by the circle of friends that God's given me.
Be blessed! xoxo
